Tourism Yukon Summer Commercials

Throw back to last Summer up in the Yukon where I worked as the 1st AD/PM on a series of four tourism commercials.  As beautiful as the Winter was up there, the Summer was extraordinary with endless natural landscapes and the glorious midnight sun!  I remember this being one of the most challenging jobs I've ever worked on but it still remains one of my favourites and another reason why I love my job!

Agency:  Outside the Cube, Production Company:  Brüdder Productions + Pixelbox, Director:  RJ Sauer, Producers:  RJ Sauer + Jayden Soroka, 1st AD/PM:  Amy Jones, DOP:  Byron Kopman, Drone:  Carlo Wein + Patrick Henry (Alterna Films)

Sportchek What it Takes 2016 Olympics Campaign

The Olympics are finally here and I'm excited to share some athlete spots I worked on as Production Manager for the Sportchek #whatittakes campaign!!!  Another logistically challenging gig - shooting 6 athletes each with their own unique sporting disciplines and training locations in 6 different cities across Canada but the Summer Olympics have always held a dear place in my heart and it was an absolute honour to work on this one!

Agency:  TBWA, Producer:  TSN, Production House:  Candela Collective Inc.

DOP (Damien Warner, Rosie MacLennan, Ryan Cochrane, Mark de Jonge): Devon Burns

DOP (Magali Harvey, Heather Bansley) :  Jason Wessel

I'm proud to share the second of our two Tourism Yukon Winter commercials that I worked on as PM and 1st AD under Brüdder Productions Inc.  The real highlight of this one - getting to 1st AD from a sled!!!

Fairmont Vancouver Notch 8 Restaurant Launch

Working with the Fairmont is always amazing but getting the opportunity to Produce a stills and video campaign for their new restaurant launch was a tonne of fun!  Notch 8, based in Hotel Vancouver, pays homage to the hotel's history as one of the legendary railway hotels built by the Canadian Pacific and the Canadian National Railways and as such has slight design features that mimic this railway history.  Shooting in such a cool space with a hint of history and old world charm inspired both the video and stills team to deliver some incredible work!

nTRUST Commercial Spot

I recently worked on this commercial spot for nTRUST under Hangar 18 and Circle Productions as the Producer and 1st Assistant Director. Directed by Robert Turner and shot by Philip Lanyon, the spot was a fantastic piece to kick off Spring in Vancouver with us filming around the city over 3 shoot days.  This one had a super short production timeline and it was a huge team effort to pull together casting, locations and production logistics in time!

Tourism Yukon Commercial Shoot

I recently had the pleasure of being the Production Manager + 1st Assistant Director on a commercial shoot for Tourism Yukon under the direction of Outside the Cube (agency) and RJ Sauer at Brüdder Productions (Director/Production company).  We shot two commercial spots over four days in the wintery cold temperatures of the Yukon and the beauty of the landscapes definitely outweighed the cold!  It was one of the best shoots I've been on and I'm proud to share the first of the two spots released and on-air now - Robert Service 60 second TVC.

Here's a selection of BTS photos:

The Wood Innovation and Design Centre Story

For the past year I've been working on a project for the Forestry Innovation Investment group under Brüdder Productions Inc. as the Producer/Director.  It was an exciting project to get to see every stage of a new and innovative building project coming together - we filmed forestry, design, manufacturing, testing, construction and then the finished building when it was completed.  The project spanned over a year and gave us the opportunity to interview and film a number of amazing professionals in a variety of different fields across BC.  The future of BC wood products is an exciting one - enjoy!

Some past project favourites

I wanted to share some of my favourite projects from the past couple of years.  They all had their own challenges at the time but turned out to be projects that I'm incredibly proud of and look back on with fond memories!  I produced these three projects under the leadership of Director/Producer RJ Sauer of Brüdder Productions.

The BC Rugby video was shot over 2 nights on Brockton Oval in Stanley Park and one day in a studio using a variety of real players across the mens, womens and kids leagues.  Our night shoot included some rain and fog effects on top of a highly stylized lighting plan to simulate a real stadium look.

The UVIC Vikes shoot saw us filming 8 sports over 4 nights.  It was a hugely challenging shoot fitting two sports into each night with a small crew of 5 and the most challenging was shooting the rowing from 1am-6am with the women's team.  We had three follow boats - one with the camera and two with lights - trying to match speed with the women rowing across a lake in the pitch black and rain!

The Tourism Squamish Backcountry Skiing video is one of twelve vignettes that we shot for them over a couple of years.  As with any winter skiing shooting you need the perfect weather and this day that we shot was well worth the waiting and re-scheduling!
